River Cruise Charter FAQ
Quick answers for group organizers and charter planners.
Request a Charter QuoteCharter and Group Questions
The questions organizers ask most often about chartering a river ship or reserving a group block. For anything specific to your dates or group, send a charter request and our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise will look into it.
What is the difference between a charter and a group booking?
A full-ship charter means you contract for every cabin and nobody else sails. A group booking reserves a block of cabins on a scheduled sailing that other travelers also take.
How many guests does a river ship hold?
In Europe, river ships typically carry roughly 100 to 190 guests, depending on the ship. Hotel barges carry far fewer, from a handful to about twenty.
Is there a minimum group size?
Each line sets its own group and charter terms. Tell us your numbers and we will tell you which options fit.
Can we bring our own speakers or entertainment?
On a full charter, lines can often accommodate guest speakers, performers or presentations, subject to their policies and the ship’s facilities.
Can the ship carry our branding?
On a full charter, many lines can arrange welcome signage, printed materials and branded touches. Scope varies by line.
What happens if we need to cancel?
Cancellation terms are set in the charter or group contract and usually become stricter closer to sailing. Read them carefully and consider insurance.
What if water levels change the itinerary?
Charters are subject to the same river conditions as any sailing. Lines may revise routes, swap ships or use coaches. Ask how the contract handles this.
Can our group have private excursions?
Yes, this is one of the most common requests. On a charter every excursion can be private; on a cabin block, private tours in one or more ports can often be arranged for your group.
Can we charter a ship in the United States?
American river cruise lines also work with groups. Ask us which U.S. ships and dates may be available; domestic sailings avoid passports and long-haul flights for American guests.
Do guests pay individually or does the organizer pay?
Either can work. Companies usually pay for the whole charter, while clubs and families often have guests pay for their own cabins within the group. We can set things up to suit you.
Who handles the booking?
Our cruise advisors at Mister Cruise coordinate with the lines, compare proposals, and manage contracts, deadlines and guest details for you.
